Growing Area - water catchment
All our growing areas have been graded to approximately 1:70. They were then lined with builders plastic. In some cases the plastic was then covered with 100mm gravel and then weed mat.
The design criteria for the growing area catchment was a 1 in 1 year rainfall of 100mm/hr. Edge drains collect run-ff from the plastic. The edge drains have a graded base with a 100mm AG pipe. They are plastic lined and filled with gravel. Edge drains run to plastic sumps and then run to 100mm or 150mm transfer pipes. Transfer pipes continally increase in size with the cummulative in-flows up to 225mm pipes.
The flowrates and capacity of the drainage was designed taking into account the available fall levels and pipe friction losses. Excavation of the edge trenches was done with careful grading using a laser dumpy level.
