Description

One of the most beautiful of the large bamboos and the major species grown in huge edible shoot plantation areas in Southern China and Taiwan. Its smooth green straight long internoded culms are leaf-free initially with masses of huge (up to 40cm x 8cm) dark green leaves above. Internodes up to 60cm. The valuable edible shoots are light green with orange to bronze tops, smooth except for a scattering of sparse temporary black hairs revealed as culm leaves telescope upwards. The Chinese cook rice balls in the very large leaves. Highly recommended and commercially valuable. Available at reduced prices in plantation quantities.
