Technical Data - Mature Plant Specifications

Common Name: Giant Bamboo

Height: 15 m
Pole Diameter: 300 mm
Cold Tolerance: -2 DegC
Species Origin: Burma/Thailand

Description

The worlds largest bamboo, it tends to be slower and smaller if grown in Australias cooler climate (theoretically D asper is capable of reaching the same size and seems to be a better performer here). Its smooth erect culms have a distinctly blue tinge to their dark green often powdery appearance with no branches for 12 metres or more and aerial roots on lowest nodes. Medium green leaves and huge dark blue-black hair covered shoots. Its strong culms are extensively used for construction in the Burma/Thailand/Vietnam area. High quality edible shoots.
